John was born in 1958 and raised in the Sutherland Shire, Sydney. He first took up oil painting in 1983 after showing a keen interest and aptitude for drawing. Since those early years John has keenly pursued his desire to paint. Whilst traditional in style, John's works are often referred to as vibrant and fresh.
John particularly enjoys capturing the beautiful waterways and headlands of the Sydney Basin on canvas but by no means is restricted to any particular subject or area. He has close ties to the township of Tumut (400km south of Sydney) and often returns to that area for inspiration and subject matter.
John's paintings are full of life and colour and children (often his own) figure prominently in his works. John is self taught and has enjoyed drawing from the knowledge of other artists - both past and present - to arrive at a style which is very much his own. His paintings have awonderful Australian flavour and many of his works have travelled abroad.
John's works consistently receive recognition from his peers having won over 30 awards for his paintings, including 11 first prizes over the last 5 years. John recently won the Australian Artistmagazine's national seascape competition featured in the April 2001 edition of that magazine. He is keenly sought after as a demonstrator by the various art societies around Sydney.
