Sandra Lalopoulos
Sydney born and educated, in 1965 attended East Sydney Technical College , National Art School. Employed by A. W. Pearce & Company in 1969 as a layout artist, photographic artist and cutter for silk-screen printing.
Travelled to Europe in 1972 settling in Greece for 10 years. During this period experimented with many mediums capturing the light and wonderfully strong colour of everyday Greek life in villages steeped with the history of old textured unstructured buildings. In partnership with a Greek artist, paintings were sold to retail outlets and privately from residence/studio in Propheti Elias, Piraeus .
Returning to Australia in 1982, the production of artwork was placed on hold as the raising and caring for family became the priority. During this period, travelling throughout Australia became a passion and a fascination for architectural shapes and textures resumed. Wool and textile design also occupied these years in the fashion industry.
After a long break from painting, resumption began again in 2001, depicting primarily Greek, Mediterranean and Australian architecture. Paintings have been purchased at the Oatley and Waverley College Annual Art Shows as well as privately and on commission basis in other states of Australia , Greece , UK and Canada . Many of these commissions are of ancestral villages.
- 2003 The first competition entered since resuming painting was in November 2003 at the Dungog Hunter Valley Arts Society, second place was awarded in the Open Category by the judging of Margaret Woodward.
- 2004 Group exhibition at Sutherland Art Gallery , October 2004. November 2004 - First prize awarded in the Open Category at the Dungog Hunter Valley Art Society – judging by Sheila White.
- 2005 Group exhibition at Sutherland Art Gallery , November 2005.
