Suzanne Sommer
Born in Strathfield in 1953. As a child Suzanne loved to draw and paint. She begin painting seriously after studying landscape painting with Robin Tindall and Alan Fizzell and the Meldrum method with Fred Matin. She also studied life drawing at Meadowbank Technical College.
Suzanne has won numerous awards, many of which have been first prize. Some recent prixes are Sir Vincent Fairfax Award, first prize, 1992, Tumut, first prize 1993, Picton, first prize 1993, winner 1995 Opera House Combined Art Society of Sydney Award for best oil painting, aswell as many Most Popular Choices awards.
Public acceptance of Suzanne's work was immediate and far reaching. Collectors from all States and overseas have acquired her paintings. Suzanne has taught at Willandra Art School and is a member of Drummoyne Art Society.
Suzanne works in both oils and pastels and has a romantic impressionistic style and has a love for both landscape and figure paintings. She catches the light and colours of life. Suzanne feels that it is a matter of playing exactly the right note in the symphony on canvas.
